11th December, 2012, Pune: In the last ten days, at least 74 dengue cases have been registered in Pune. On Sunday, there were fourteen cases and on average they are registering 8 – 10 dengue cases. According to reports, a Pune Municipal Corporation officer stated that they are expecting that the number will go down with the fall in temperature.
On Monday, Pune’s minimum temperature was around 16.1 degree Celcius. According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature will come down to around 12 degrees by Wednesday. The number of dengue cases goes down as the number of mosquitoes reduces during winter.
Recently, a team of the Union Health Ministry conducted larval survey in Pune’s dengue affected areas. They highlighted the low awareness level among local people when it comes to tackle the breeding spots of mosquitoes.
Apart from dengue fever, Pune has also seen twenty chikungunya cases and around 139 malaria infection cases this year.
